Great friends and long-time chamber music partners, Cobus du Toit (flute) and Patrick Sutton (guitar) began playing together as doctoral students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Known for their collective flair and bravura, the du Toit/Sutton Duo perform regularly at concert series, festivals and universities throughout the United States and abroad. Recent recitals include the National Flute Convention in Washington D.C., the Festiba International Art Festival in Brownsville, Texas, the International Low Flute Festival in Reston, Virginia, the University of Texas at Arlington and the Estes Park Music Festival in Colorado, to name a few. The du Toit/Sutton Duo are committed to sharing their love of music and zest for life through concertizing, outreach and recording the wonderfully rich flute & guitar repertoire. Their eclectic debut album, Tríptico, was born out of the du Toit/Sutton Duo’s passion for folkloric rhythms and features an electrifying performance of Ricardo Iznaola’s little-known flute and guitar masterpiece, Tríptico Criollo. The recording also features an adventurous and original interpretation of Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango that is indicative of the duo’s intrepid musical spirit.

In the summer of 2014, the du Toit/Sutton Duo went a critically acclaimed tour of South Africa, playing recitals at every major concert series in the country. Concert societies and venues included, the Johannesburg Musical Society, Friends of Music Concert Series in Durban, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth and the Knysna-Plett Concert Series. The du Toit/Sutton duo are also strong believers in the transformative power of educational outreach. While in South Africa, the duo gave outreach masterclasses to underprivileged youth through the University of South Africa’s music foundation, and guest taught at the University of Cape Town.
